Taking Care of Yourself on the Inside

I saw a news story recently about a woman who was an obsessive hoarder.  She had so much junk piled up inside her home that there was only a narrow path through which she could walk from room to room.

It was filthy, and even her own children didn’t want to step inside.  From the outside, however, it looked like a beautiful home.  The woman kept her lawn perfectly trimmed and her flowerbeds were always manicured to perfection.  Why, I wondered, would she take such care on the outside, and let everything inside waste away?

I’d like to pose that same question to women who spend hours primping in the mirror, yet don’t care for their bodies.  What is the point of perfectly groomed hair, and fabulous manis and pedis if, inside, you are not your best?

I understand that some women who overeat are masking something.  It could be pain. It could be stress. Whatever it is, though, now is the time to face it head on and make a very deliberate choice that TODAY is the day you are going to start taking care of yourself from the inside out.

In the news story, the woman’s family came over and helped her clean everything out.  She just didn’t feel like she could do it on her own.  Once it was all done, she said she felt better than she’d felt in years.  She felt free and happy, and was ready to make other positive changes in her life.  Most importantly, she vowed never to go back to living that way again.

That is what boot camp can do for you! We can help give you that jump start into a healthy lifestyle, even if you think you can’t do it on your own.  We’ll motivate you and show you how great you can feel when you take time each day to care for yourself.

Once you implement some of what you’ll learn at boot camp, you’ll be motivated to make additional positive changes in your life! Here are a few things you can start doing TODAY to take better care of yourself.

  • Workout

This is where boot camp can really help you.  Not only will we give you some ideas about HOW to work out, but we’ll also help you learn that you can do a lot more than you might think you can!

  • Eat Right

Part of boot camp is learning how to eat right. We’ll show you how to put together a balanced, nutritious diet.

  • Sleep Enough

Some people wear their lack of sleep like a badge of honor.  They think it proves something (to who?) about how busy/important/motivated that they are.  In reality, all a lack of sleep does is lower the ability of your immune system, make you cranky and give you bags under your eyes.

Aim for 6-8 (or more) hours per night.

  • Find Balance

Finding a balance between work and the rest of your life is so important.  Doing so will lower your stress and improve your performance in every area of your life.

  • Laugh

Take time to hang out with the people that make you happy.  Make it a point to laugh every day.

Taking care of yourself on the inside should be a priority.  Eating right, working out, removing stress, sleeping enough etc…all of those are ways that you can improve your health and feel better.

As a bonus, if you take care of yourself on the inside, your outside is going to look better. Your skin will improve, your eyes will have a little sparkle and, of course, a fit trim body never hurt either.

  1. Laugh. Thanks for including laughing.

Here’s my take on laughing because I know having fun everyday is critical to good health.

Laughing over spilled milk is OK. Laughing at a good story, animals’ antics and human foibles is better. Laughing with other people is best.
